OPENOFFICE.ORG POST
June 2008

Introducing the OpenOffice.org 2.4.1

Following our policy strategy to publish product updates on a regular basis, OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 is available for download now. Although it is primarily a maintenance release, we recommend users to install the update due to a security fix. Full details of the changes may be found in the Release Notes.

Click here for a free download of the product update.

Are you looking for help with an OpenOffice.org issue?

You can get professional support in English, German and French for just 9.99 Euro (+VAT) per incident from Sun or you may find the answer in the new OpenOffice.org Community Forum where OpenOffice.org users are helping each other.

OpenOffice.org 3.0 Snapshot Builds (pre Beta 2) are available for testing!

Help us to improve the quality and stability of the next release of OpenOffice.org. The snapshot builds can still have bugs. Thus, it is recommended to continue using OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 for production work. The OpenOffice.org 3.0 snapshot builds can be installed in parallel to OpenOffice.org 2.4.1. If you decide to test OpenOffice.org 3.0 snapshot builds in production scenarios anyway, please make sure that you frequently save your documents and frequently create backup copies in order to prevent data loss.

Following features are new or improved:

  • Native Mac X support Support for Microsoft Office 2007 Solver component Multi page view for text documents Spreadsheet collaboration Various Chart improvements Presenter console (available as an extension in the OpenOffice.org extension respository today) Import of PDF documents (will become available as an extension until the end of June) An email and calendar client (i.e. Mozilla Thunderbird and Lightning)

A more detailed guide to the features can be found in the feature list.

Announcing a new extension for OpenOffice.org - the Sun Presenter Console [Beta]

The Presenter Console Extension provides more control over your slide show presentation, such as the ability to see the next slide, the slide notes, and a presentation timer while the audience sees only the current slide.

This is a beta and it works only with the OpenOffice.org 3.0 beta. Please help in making this extension better, by providing feedback and suggestions.

Please note that the Presenter Console works only on operating systems that support multiple displays.
